Calendars.net

Mike Zandvliet (now back in New Zealand) had originally set up a merged calendar using a widely available service from Calendars.net The merged calendar normally is not free, however, Mike negotiated a donation from Calendars.net to provide a free merged calendar which continues to be provided today. Go to [1] for an example of a team’s calendar in this system that is in active use. The original intent of this service was temporary in nature as Mike was working on a much more powerful system that would allow teams to manage all of their training and events. It is strongly suggested that teams using calendars.net switch over to the more powerful ITM.

Integrated Training Management (ITM)

A more powerful system created by Mike Zandvliet and free for SAR Alberta to use, ITM was piloted by Calgary Search and Rescue starting in 2004. Since then, more than five teams are either using it or have had an account created for them. Go to [2] to see a listing of all Alberta search and rescue events.

ITM is a full training management system that is being improved with new features on a regular basis. It allows for online registration with manual or automatic confirmation modes. Membership database features allow contact lists to be generated. The system also records actual attendance, and allows your volunteers to see what they have attended and what they are registered for. Various reports can be generated – sign-in sheets, training records, team training summary. It also has significant syllabus features, allowing your training management team to create lesson allocations (the learning objectives to be covered and their priority) to give to instructors, improving consistency and standards. ITM currently has more than 500 learning objectives initially created during its pilot, that can be re-used and improved upon. There are automatic reminders to registered participants a few days before an event (can be turned off). Customized calendars can be created – for example in addition to your own team calendar, one could be made for the North Central region, including ERSARA and the other teams in your area. ITM allows you to see who has taught and organized events in the past. Location & contact information can be typed in just once, and then easily re-used by all future events as appropriate.

If your team is interested in using ITM, please contact one of the Organization Administrators listed below.
