The rest of this page is for the exercise planners. You're welcome to look around -- none of it's secret -- but if you're planning on participating in the exercise, you might not want to spoil your fun by reading ahead.

The 2011 Mock Rescue is a sequence of preplan preparation, table top exercise, live exercise and follow up improvements. The major component is the live Exercise Dark Squeeze.

Exercise Followup Tasks

A number of tasks need to be completed before we can "close" the planning process on Exercise Dark Squeeze.

Follow Up Communications

Followup info was emailed September 26 both via ITM and via email from Cindy's work account. A significant number of people did not receive the email.

Followup info UPDATE was emailed October XX from Cindy's work account. A number of read receipts were obtained as well as replies.

Follow Up info UPDATE #2 - Participant Expenses was emailed xxx date.

Exercise Planning Critique

An ACRO/2011 Mock Rescue/Planning/Dark Squeeze PLANNING Critique exercise planning critique is scheduled for Thursday October 27 at 7 pm via conference call.

The on-line exercise planning critique survey may be of interest although it was intended from a participant perspective. Feel free to complete your own survey at

Exercise Plans

The 2011 Mock Cave Rescue Exercise is planned in two parts.

The larger exercise DARK SQUEEZE is a live exercise on the mountain involving multiple field response agencies. It is planned for the September 16 - 18, 2011. The details are found here.

A smaller tabletop exercise is planned to be run prior to the live exercise. It will focus on the tasking agencies and issues of mandate in an interjurisdictional setting. The details are found here.

The project plan Gantt Chart is maintained by Cindy Heselton. See her for the up to date plan.

Lessons Learned

It may seem early to already be thinking of the lessons we are learning...but feel free to add your comments HERE

A significant number of participants filled out feedback forms. They need to be scanned and saved as well as summarized.

An operational critique conference call was originally scheduled for October 5 but was cancelled due to lack of interest. It could be that a significant number of participants did not receive the follow up email.

An exercise planning critique is planned based on the results of a doodle poll sent to planning committee participants.

Lessons Learned from Operation Octopus (2009 Provincial Mock SAR Exercise) graciously shared by Edward Van Heeran of Rocky Mountain SAR.
